Flying beast
This is currently my best and biggest sculpt project to date. I learned a lot making it, lessons to do the next ones better.
Project recap
The sculpt
The sculpt was made with airdry clay but I started this project with a wire frame and bulked it out with aluminum foil.
I made the wires run into the base to mainain the creature's position, although later on I found out these weren't sturdy enough. This meant I would have to mend the cracks that would appear at its ankles after working on the beast multiple times.
What I found most interesting was making the wings as I had to build a rig to maintain the thin sheet of clay in the desired position while it dried.

I think my main personal take away is to add more detail to this type of design in the future as the amount of scales feel inconsistent. I liked the idea of protective scales but it looks held back and the model seems to be lacking a clear direction on whether the creature has scales or not.

Painting
I wasn't certain about my colour palette at first but I wanted a ghostly look. I chose to pair purple and white together with red/pink highlights, I wanted an out of this world appearance. I took my time to blend the wing colours for that realistic look.
I applied the same idea for the terrain. I picked crystals and out of the ordinary shapes for detail with touches of bright pink to give an alien feeling.
